British supermarket chain J Sainsbury’s has named Clodagh Moriarty as group chief digital officer.

Moriarty will be responsible for creating and leading the group’s digital strategy to deliver an integrated and seamless digital experience to customers across Sainsbury’s, Argos, Sainsbury’s Bank, and Nectar.

Sainsbury’s group chief executive Mike Coupe said: “The creation of the new group chief digital officer role demonstrates the importance we place in giving customers outstanding and seamless digital shopping experiences.

Prior to this role, Moriarty also served as online director for Sainsbury’s Groceries Online business, helping the brand grow online in terms of sales and profitability.

She contributed to customer innovation by launching same-day grocery delivery and one-hour grocery delivery in Chop Chop and SmartShop, enabling customers to scan products themselves while shopping in stores.

Moriarty said: “It’s a really exciting time to be working in retail, and digital innovation is key to making our customers’ shopping experiences easier.

Sainsbury’s launched five in-store ice cream parlours earlier this week, in collaboration with global FMCG major Unilever.

The company has also introduced Sushi Gourmet counters, Patisserie Valerie cakes, a Crussh juice counter, and a Zizzi pizza counter to its stores over the last year.
