US-based beauty care retail chain Ulta Beauty, has reported 22.1% rise in its revenues of $481.7m for the second quarter ended 28 July 2012, up from $394.6m during the same quarter of 2011.

The retailer posted a net income of $35m, an increase of 46.4% for the current quarter, as against $23.9m in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

Ulta’s gross profit rose 80bp to 34.8% for the current quarter as against 34.0% in the in the second quarter of 2011.

Comparable store sales increased 9.3% compared to same period last year.

The retailer’s operating income for the second quarter increased to $57.46m, compared to $39.66m in second quarter of prior year.

Net sales for the first six months of fiscal 2011 increased 22.4% to $955.8, compared to $780.6m in 2011 besides net income for the period totaled $69.9m.

Ulta president and chief executive officer Chuck Rubin said the firm is happy towards its progress with the roll out of the 50 additional Lancôme boutiques which was announced in the previous quarter.

“We are also excited to announce the addition of Clinique boutiques in 35 additional stores in light of the success of the 13 stores currently offering Clinique.

“Most importantly, our 15,000 associates are creating a fun, inviting environment to make Ulta the place where guests are increasingly choosing to shop.”

Ulta Beauty offers a unique combination of over 20,000 prestige and mass beauty products across the categories of cosmetics, fragrance, haircare, skincare, bath and body products and salon styling tools, as well as salon haircare products.
