US-based Whole Foods Market, part of Amazon’s worldwide grocery stores, is set to open its first new UK store in more than a decade, expanding its international presence.

The store, located on London's King’s Road in Chelsea, is scheduled to open its doors on 25 March 2025.

The 21,800ft² King’s Road store will offer a full-service seafood counter, a wide range of certified organic and conventional fresh produce, a range of more than 400 wines, a speciality department focusing on cheesemakers and artisan producers, a carefully selected grocery section and dedicated areas for wellness and beauty products.

The Chelsea store will also include a full-service meat counter, a section for prepared foods, a bakery department and a full-service coffee bar.

Whole Foods Market and Amazon growth and development executive vice-president Christina Minardi stated: “We know customers in the UK are seeking high-quality natural and organic products.

“As we plan for the future, we are actively looking at this market and opportunities to bring Whole Foods Market to more customers there.”

Whole Foods Market currently operates more than 535 stores across the US, Canada and the UK, with 90 more in the pipeline.

In 2024, the supermarket chain introduced a new quick-shop concept called the Whole Foods Market Daily Shop.

This store format is designed to offer urban customers a “convenient” shopping experience.

Amazon Worldwide Grocery Stores vice-president and Whole Foods Market CEO Jason Buechel said: “Whole Foods Market has roots deeply planted in the UK, and we are thrilled to be bringing more natural and organic food to this market with the opening of our new King’s Road store this March.

“Continuing our expansion outside of the US enables us to extend our reach to more customers while advancing our higher purpose to nourish people and the planet.”
