Wawa, a US family-owned chain of convenience retail stores, has initiated its expansion into the US state of Georgia by breaking ground on its first two stores.
The two stores are located in Brunswick and at 356 West Orange Street, Jesup, Georgia.
Wawa is developing a network of locations across southern and coastal Georgia, with properties currently under contract in Hinesville and Pooler as well as in Brunswick and Jesup.
Up to 2031, the retailer plans to establish 26 stores in southern and coastal Georgia, inaugurating three to four annually.
The construction of each store represents a $7.0m investment and will engage 140 contractors and local partners.
Each Wawa store will then employ 35 associates, contributing to the creation of 1,000 long-term jobs in all.
Wawa store operations senior director Robert Yeatts stated: “It’s official – Wawa is coming to Georgia, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to share details of our exciting growth plans with our newest soon-to-be neighbours!”
“Our two groundbreaking events gave us the opportunity to meet new faces and share with our new markets a little bit about our history and what makes Wawa such an ideal fit for communities here. We are thrilled to break ground on our first stores and get closer to our first grand openings in 2024.”
The expansion move signifies Wawa's commitment to bringing its store experience and community engagement to new regions.
The company will leverage the ground-breaking events to introduce itself to the local community, outline its expansion strategy and engage with VIP customers, local dignitaries and charity partners.
Wawa operates 1,000 locations across the US, offering a fresh food service selection including freshly brewed coffee and speciality beverages.
