Walmart has partnered with supply chain management technology company Bamboo Rose in a move to reshape its global sourcing landscape.

This collaboration marks the commencement of an initiative centred around developing and integrating an enterprise sourcing platform (ESP). The ESP is set to redefine Walmart's interaction with its network of suppliers worldwide, supporting the multinational retailer’s commitment to everyday low-cost solutions.

Enhancing collaboration through ESP

The implementation of the ESP will allow Walmart Sourcing associates to foster improved collaboration with buyers, product development teams and suppliers globally. The new platform, which will be used by Sam’s Club as well, is designed to enhance visibility and streamline decision-making processes.

By providing greater insights into volume and cost considerations, Walmart associates will be empowered to make more informed purchasing decisions.

Streamlining the supply chain for global impact

The ESP solution is poised to streamline Walmart's expansive supply chain and optimise access to goods in various markets, potentially reducing waste in categories such as perishable goods and other sensitive product lines.

The comprehensive impact of this implementation extends across all markets and business units within both Walmart and Sam's Club.

In a statement expressing his enthusiasm for this transformative initiative, Walmart vice-president of product global sourcing Daniel Berg said: "At Walmart, we're constantly looking for ways to improve our business so we can help our customers save money and live better.

"With this technology, we'll be able to engage with suppliers across multiple growth stages, expand global offerings and make more efficient decisions."

Bamboo Rose chief revenue officer Mike Mattei added: "We believe retailers succeed when they collaborate internally and across supplier networks to provide openness and opportunities for collective growth."

Driving innovation and customer value

The companies said the adoption of the new sourcing approach aligns seamlessly with Walmart’s commitment to Everyday Low Cost (EDLC) for customers.

In October 2023, the retailer announced the debut of its “next-generation supply chain”, promising customers unprecedented convenience and accuracy.
