Global technology provider Uber Technologies has partnered with The Save Mart to launch an on-demand and scheduled grocery delivery service in the US.

The service will deliver from more than 190 stores belonging to The Save Mart Companies.

Customers can now order a selection of produce, household items and other products from The Save Mart, Lucky and FoodMaxx locations through Uber and the Uber Eats app.

Uber One members are exempt from delivery fees and can receive a 5% discount on Save Mart orders of $35 or more.

The Save Mart Companies senior vice-president and chief digital officer Tamara Pattison said: "We are thrilled to expand access and availability of our fresh quality offerings, local favourites, groceries and everyday essentials with Uber's popular and successful platform, meeting the needs and choices of our customers.

"We continue our customer-centric approach by providing solutions for busy people and families who are always seeking convenience and quality coupled with affordability."

Uber, which launched its food delivery service in 2020, has expanded offerings to include grocery, convenience, alcohol and retail selection.

The company partners with major retailers, including Albertsons Companies, Meijer, Kroger, SpartanNash and Hy-Vee.

Uber US & Canada Grocery and New Verticals head Christian Freese said: "Save Mart, Lucky and FoodMaxx stores have been reliably serving residents in California and Nevada for decades and from one California-based company to another, we're proud to partner with such a beloved regional favourite. We look forward to a strong partnership in service of our shared communities in California and beyond."

In July this year, Uber partnered with proprietary e-commerce software provider Vroom Delivery to improve convenience store delivery options for consumers.
