Real estate company CenterCal Properties has announced that Japan-based grocer and retailer Tokyo Central will be a new addition to the Bay Street Emeryville shopping centre, California, US in 2025.

The move is part of the company's strategy to diversify the retail offerings at Bay Street and cater to the cultural demographics of the area.

Tokyo Central, part of Pan Pacific Retail Management (PPRM), is known for offering Japanese goods, including groceries, food trays, health products and speciality items.

The Bay Street location will also feature an upscale dining establishment, expanding the culinary options available to shoppers.

The introduction of Tokyo Central to Bay Street Emeryville is a testament to CenterCal Properties' commitment to reflecting the communities they serve.

PPRM USA president Kazuhiro Matsumoto said: "Tokyo Central is the ultimate one-stop destination for Japanese speciality food and lifestyle items. We are thrilled to bring Japan’s quality and value to a location as diverse as Bay Street Emeryville."

The new Tokyo Central will join other anticipated openings at Bay Street, which has become a hub for shopping and entertainment in the East Bay.

Since CenterCal Properties acquired the centre in the summer of 2021, it has seen the arrival of new businesses including restaurants and entertainment venues.

The new Tokyo Central will occupy a 40,635ft² anchor building with 112 rooftop parking stalls.

Its development coincides with the completion of the $5m South Bay Street Plaza and Art Garden, which features artwork by national and local artists and a prominent water sculpture.

Bay Street Emeryville development VP Scott Bohrer said: "Our team has worked tirelessly to curate an enriching experience with our customers and the surrounding community in mind, and we are excited to introduce the new Bay Street Emeryville to the entire region."
