UK-based supermarket chain Tesco is testing its new scan-free checkout technology on self-service tills at a GetGo store in Fulham, London.
The technology presents shoppers with a list of items they have picked when they walk up to the scan-free checkout.
Customers can check their items after pressing "Get Started" and pay for their purchases with a card.
Staff are present to assist customers with any issues.
The new technology is one of many checkout solutions available to improve the shopping experience.
Tesco operates three other GetGo stores at High Holborn and Chiswell Street in London, as well as Aston University in Birmingham.
All three feature both traditional self-service or attended tills, enabling customers to pay with cash or a mobile GetGo option where customers can pick items, scan the app and walk out without having to queue for checkouts.
Shoppers who use the checkout-free option will receive a receipt for their purchases within a few minutes of leaving the store.
Tesco store customer experience head Sarah Quiggin stated: “We are constantly searching for the perfect formula to make the shopping trip as seamless and convenient as possible. This trial of scan-free checkouts will add another option for customers to save time on scanning items and will reduce queuing in-store.
“We will be watching closely to see how customers react to this potential new option of having a list of their shopping presented to them automatically.”
In September 2023, Tesco announced a trial of a new sensitive skin section in select stores to help customers navigate skin care products more easily.
