UK-based supermarket chain Tesco is replacing more than 50 products in its Express stores to help shoppers save money amid rising grocery bills.

As part of this move, the retailer will replace the targeted products with low-priced alternatives including those from its own-brand range.

Products to be introduced include Tesco penne pasta, Tesco smooth peanut butter and bags of Tesco frozen garden peas.

The retailer also replaced branded toothpaste with cheaper branded alternatives, which are said to be less than a third of the price.

Tesco said that its own-brand alternatives are, on average, more than 40% cheaper compared with the products they replaced.

The transition will start in the coming two weeks, with the change set to be completed by the end of this month.

Tesco Convenience managing director Sarah Lawler said: “We know customers are watching every penny at the moment, so we hope these helpful product swaps will bring down food bills for even more families.

“Our Express stores offer unbeatable value on everything from essentials to fresh produce, making healthy food more accessible for the 2,000 communities that we serve across the UK.

"While our convenience stores don’t have the shelf space to carry the full range of our larger shops, by swapping these products, we have been able to make way for even more of our great-value own-brand ranges.”

The supermarket chain recently expanded its move to highlight marked-down yellow sticker food items to more stores across the UK.
