US retail chain Target has announced its intention to hire 100,000 seasonal workers for the upcoming 2024 holiday season.

The roles to be filled are within Target's stores and supply chain facilities, with the majority located in-store.

The hiring strategy aligns with Target's ongoing commitment to invest in its workforce through competitive pay, benefits and flexible scheduling to meet the diverse needs of its employees.

The retailer is also providing current team members with the chance to work additional hours over the holiday season and will deploy its On Demand team in stores to meet customer needs.

Target field and operations HR senior vice-president Emily Hebert said: "The holiday season is a special time at Target, made brighter by our team.

"Our team members are at the centre of delivering Target’s differentiated shopping experience, which is why we are so committed to providing industry-leading pay, flexible scheduling options, comprehensive benefits and opportunities for career development."

In a similar move to manage increased festive demand, Amazon India recently announced the creation of 110,000 seasonal job opportunities within its operations network.

The roles, both direct and indirect, are spread across Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Pune.

Amazon India's seasonal workforce also includes thousands of women associates and 1,900 associates with disabilities, reinforcing its fulfilment and logistics network.

Retail giant Walmart has also indicated that its holiday hiring will align with previous years, as reported by Reuters.

The retailer brought 40,000 seasonal workers on board in 2022.

Bath and Body Works has also announced plans to recruit 30,000 new seasonal associates in stores and distribution centres across the US, Canada and Puerto Rico.
