US-based home improvement retailer Stine has deployed multipurpose autonomous robots from Badger Technologies, a product division of Jabil, across its stores to improve operations and customer experience.

The robots detect out-of-stock (OOS) products with more than 95% accuracy while helping to reduce such OOS products by up to 50%.

They will also assist Stine in improving price-tag accuracy by 97%.

The introduction of autonomous robots is part of Stine's commitment to its associates and customers.

Stine, which is based in Sulphur, Louisiana, operates a network of 13 stores across Louisiana and Mississippi offering home-improvement products and building material supplies.

Stine CIO Robert Spears stated: “We always look for innovative ways to increase productivity by removing operational obstacles.

“Badger Technologies’ robots free our associates from time-consuming inventory checks, enabling them to help customers while ensuring our products are placed and priced correctly.”

Badger Technologies’ autonomous robots help to offload manual and tedious tasks from store associates while addressing labour shortages.

The robots generate actionable data and analytics to improve on-shelf product availability. They improve store safety and cleanliness by identifying hazards such as spills of liquids and powders.

Badger Technologies CEO William “BJ” Santiago stated: “Our multipurpose autonomous robots offer much-needed relief by extending staff operations and producing critical data to increase efficiencies and improve shopping experiences.

“The robots deployed by Stine are helping improve customer satisfaction, storewide operations and retail revenues.”

In September 2023, Stop & Shop, owned by Ahold Delhaize US, expanded the use of Badger Technologies’ Marty the Robot to 300 of its stores.

Personalization - a growing trend in the online retail space

Although personalization is a theme that has been present in the retail industry for decades, it has become more prevalent and important to consumers in recent years. This increase is tied to the rise of online shopping. Personalized products are currently especially prevalent in the health & beauty sector, due to the links to the health & wellness trend, which is particularly important to young consumers.
