Supermarket chain SPAR International has announced a partnership with consumer intelligence company NIQ to enhance space management across its global network.

The collaboration aims to strengthen the market position of SPAR's licensed operators by providing them with NIQ's Spaceman services.

This space management service suite is designed for an integrated, automated planogramming [placement of retail products on shelves] process.

The suite offers diverse modules to support each client’s unique needs, enabling them to analyse performance and identify opportunities across planograms.

By integrating planogram data with replenishment and other business systems, the software streamlines operations and boosts efficiency.

SPAR International operation head Tom Rose said: “We are pleased to collaborate with NIQ to provide access for our licensees to this solution. NIQ Spaceman’s innovative software empowers our licensed operators to harness the power of data-driven insights and make informed decisions about their space allocations, layout and product placement.

“This collaboration underscores our commitment to our licensed operators in providing cutting-edge solutions that drive their success.”

NIQ, part of the Advent International portfolio, operates in more than 100 markets.

The company’s Spaceman software is utilised in 79 countries by 3,000 fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and non-FMCG manufacturers and retailers.

Clients report improvements in sales ranging from 10% to 35%, optimisation of their assortments, and inventory reductions of between 10% and 30%.

NIQ analytics leader Simon Trott said: “This collaboration is an exciting opportunity for us to support the SPAR licensed organisations in optimising their shelf space and fostering growth across diverse markets. Leveraging our experience working with select partners in the past, we have successfully driven growth through effective space management strategies.”

In September 2023, SPAR International expanded its collaboration with food waste reduction technology provider Whywaste to combat food waste.
