Supermarket chain SPAR Austria Group’s IT division SPAR-ICS has inaugurated a new 1,200m² IT hub at its campus in Vienna, as it prioritises the digital transformation of its business and service operations.
SPAR-ICS is expanding its presence in Vienna as part of its commitment to enhancing both customer shopping experiences and employee work environments.
The division currently employs more than 700 IT and digitalisation experts across Austria, northern Italy, Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia.
The new facility employs 77 individuals who are responsible for core and support processes across the group.
The hub has 62 flexible desk-sharing workstations, four meeting rooms accommodating up to 29 people, six collaboration rooms, quiet areas, hot desks, team spaces and two phone booths for private conversations.
SPAR Austria Board member Markus Kaser said: "Our new IT centre in Vienna represents progress and innovation. At SPAR-ICS, we are developing solutions for the retail of the future and setting new standards in digitalisation.
“We are proud to be the leader in innovation and IT for the Austrian food retail sector. Expanding in Vienna was a logical step to harness the city’s innovative spirit.”
Since 2018, SPAR-ICS has broadened its operations beyond Salzburg by adding facilities in Wernberg (Carinthia) and now Vienna.
Remote working has enabled SPAR Austria to attract talent nationwide, resulting in the rapid growth of the Vienna ICS Hub B from an initial 20 employees.
It now covers digital retail, data science, digital marketing, cloud and mobile computing, IT security, e-commerce and big data.
SPAR-ICS managing director Andreas Kranabitl said: "Onboarding is crucial for remote teams. We provide employees with personalised learning, dedicated contacts, and an ‘ICS buddy.’ Through welcome days and the ICS Academy, we create the perfect environment for a smooth start at SPAR-ICS."
In September 2024, SPAR Austria enhanced its commitment to sustainable mobility by switching to bio-based fuel.
