Sainsbury’s partners with SAP to revamp commercial systems

The transformation will enable Sainsbury’s to respond to changing customer propositions and requirements.

British supermarket chain Sainsbury's has entered a partnership with software company SAP to overhaul its commercial systems and expedite its "Next Level Sainsbury's" strategy.

The collaboration aims to consolidate legacy systems, thereby enhancing business agility with cloud-based solutions and streamlining technology costs.

SAP, alongside transformation partner Accenture and cloud provider AWS, will spearhead the design of Sainsbury's new system.

The initiative will offer the retailer enhanced system flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing customer needs and propositions.

With the new capability and capacity, Sainsbury's will be equipped to manage products on promotion flexibly and offer a more personalised value experience for its customers.

The modernisation will not only benefit customers but also suppliers, employees, and shareholders by integrating Sainsbury's systems and tools into a unified platform.

This will facilitate a more seamless interaction between Sainsbury's employees and suppliers, reducing complexity and driving efficiency.

Sainsbury's chief food commercial officer Rhian Bartlett said: "We’re excited to be working with a brilliant partner network in SAP, Accenture and AWS to completely revolutionise our commercial systems, which are the heart and lungs of our business operations.

“This is a huge step forward in our Next Level Sainsbury's plan, as we continue to invest in market-leading technology that allows us to keep growing at pace and maintain our momentum towards becoming the first choice for food."

In August 2024, Sainsbury’s announced a seven-year expansion of its strategic partnership with digital commerce solutions provider NCR Voyix.
