British supermarket chain Sainsbury’s has expanded its footprint with the opening of Sainsbury’s Biggar Road Local, its newest store in Edinburgh, Scotland.
The new 2,820ft² store is on the ground floor of the Pentland Outdoor Centre.
The store features a curated range of products, including fruit and veg, fresh food, cupboard staples, food-to-go, cupboard staples and freshly baked goods.
It also houses a new collection point where customers can pick up products purchased online from brands including Habitat, Argos and Tu Clothing.
The new Sainsbury’s store has 18 staff, half of whom are new to the retailer.
Employees will take part in Sainsbury’s local and nationwide charity and community programmes including its Nourish the Nation campaign.
The new store opened in the presence of Edinburgh South MP Ian Murray, colleagues and customers.
Sainsbury’s property director Patrick Dunne stated: “It’s great to celebrate the opening of our newest convenience store this morning after months of planning and work to transform the ground floor of the Pentland Outdoor Centre into a fantastic Sainsbury’s store for the local community – thanks to everyone that has supported us on this journey.
“I’m delighted our investment in Fairmilehead has allowed the centre to offer a new service to residents in the form of a new store that we hope will complement the businesses that already operate there.”
In August 2023, Sainsbury’s opened a new Local store in Telford, Shropshire.
