Supermarket chain Sainsbury's is set to introduce the Aldi Price Match offer in its Local convenience stores - a first in the UK grocery sector.
The initiative, which will see the addition of up to 200 products to Aldi Price Match, ensures that Sainsbury's customers can enjoy competitive pricing on essential items, whether shopping online or at any of the retailer's more than 1,400 locations.
The extended price match offer includes everyday products such as milk, bread and pasta.
The scheme replaces the previous Pocket-Friendly Prices programme and aims to simplify the grocer’s value proposition across all its outlets.
The timing of this rollout is strategic, aimed at assisting customers with budgeting during the Christmas season.
Sainsbury's has recently revamped its convenience store experience, updating layouts and product ranges to offer better value, quality and service.
The refresh also provides an enhanced selection of products that cater to customers' needs for quick and convenient shopping.
Sainsbury's CEO Simon Roberts stated: “Since setting out to put food back at the heart of our business four years ago, we’ve invested nearly £1bn in value. Our Next Level Sainsbury’s strategy is focused on delivering outstanding value, unbeatable quality food and great service.
“In our Sainsbury’s Locals, we've worked hard to offer market-leading prices on essential items and popular breakfast, lunch and dinner staples.
“With Christmas just around the corner, we know that every penny counts and we are committed to helping our customers make the most of the festive season."
In October 2024, Sainsbury’s revealed plans to recruit 20,000 new colleagues across the UK in preparation for the anticipated Christmas increase in demand.
