Nordstrom Rack expanding with San Antonio store

This development is part of the company's ongoing strategy to broaden its presence in the retail market.

Seattle-based fashion retailer Nordstrom has unveiled its plans to open a new Nordstrom Rack store in San Antonio, Texas.

The announcement comes as part of the company's expansion strategy.

The upcoming store will encompass approximately 25,000ft² and will be situated within the popular Bandera Pointe shopping centre in Bexar County, located off Loop 1604 and Bandera Road.

This shopping centre already houses well-known retailers such as Lowe's, Target, TJ Maxx, Ross, Ulta Beauty and Old Navy.

Once opened, the San Antonio location will add to Nordstrom's existing store network in Texas. Presently, the company operates 22 Nordstrom Rack stores and eight Nordstrom stores across the state.

Two additional Nordstrom Rack stores are scheduled to open in Denton and Allen later this year. The San Antonio Nordstrom Rack store is scheduled to welcome customers in the fall of 2024.

Nordstrom Rack's role and services

Nordstrom Rack is a division of Nordstrom that offers customers discounted prices on various products, including apparel, accessories, beauty items, home goods and footwear.

These products often feature brands found in Nordstrom stores. Additionally, Nordstrom Rack provides services such as online order pickup and returns for customer convenience.

In line with its commitment to giving back to communities, Nordstrom has been involved in philanthropic efforts. Since 2019, the company and its customers have collectively donated more than $1.7m to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of the US.

These donations aid in the recruitment, training and engagement of adult mentors for young individuals, including activities such as interview preparation, tie-tying lessons and academic support.

The impending store opening in San Antonio represents a new shopping option for local residents, offering a range of fashion and lifestyle products.

Nordstrom's focus on community engagement continues to be a notable aspect of the company's operations.

Luxury goods, digitalization, and personalization identified as key drivers of the duty-free retail market

Per GlobalData, the global duty-free market retailing market was valued at $49 billion in 2022, its highest level ever as it bounced back from the pandemic impact, and is expected to grow at a CAGR of more than 28% during the period 2020-2026, driven by government initiatives, rising passenger numbers, major global events (for instance global sporting tournaments) and the renewed popularity of cruise trips. Infrastructure investments will also play an important role, particularly airport expansion and space refurbishment, and investments in arrivals duty-free formats.
