Morrisons is extending its collaboration with surplus-food app Too Good To Go to its Morrisons Daily convenience store network.

The move aims to reduce food waste while offering customers discounted products.

The supermarket chain has partnered with Too Good To Go since 2019 and the collaboration has already saved more than two million ‘Surprise Bags’ of food from being wasted.

Morrisons Daily stores will now offer these Surprise Bags, containing a mix of surplus food items nearing their sell-by date, at a reduced price.

The initiative follows a successful trial across parts of England and Wales.

“Customers and colleagues continue to tell us how much they value Too Good To Go’s Surprise Bags from Morrisons,” said Andrew Edlin, senior sustainability manager at Morrisons.

“It saves customers money while also helping us to play our part in reducing food waste and hitting our sustainability target of achieving scope 3 net-zero operational emissions, so we are delighted to be rolling the bags out to some of our Morrisons Daily convenience stores.”

“Our team is absolutely thrilled to have Morrisons Daily joining the fight against food waste,” added Sophie Trueman, country director at Too Good To Go UK and Ireland.

“At Too Good To Go we believe that saving food from going to waste is a win-win-win - businesses can recover the sunk cost of would-be wasted food, consumers can get good food for less, and with one simple action, we’re collectively doing something great for the planet by stopping that food from ending up in landfill.”

With approximately 930 Morrisons Daily stores now participating, the partnership is expected to significantly reduce food waste within the convenience store sector.

The move also highlights the growing importance of sustainability and cost-saving initiatives within the retail industry.

Food waste is a significant environmental issue, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions.

By partnering with Too Good To Go, Morrisons aims to play a role in addressing this challenge while providing customers with affordable food options.
