In a significant move towards sustainable retail practices, A.P. Moller - Maersk, a global logistics company, has announced a groundbreaking partnership with retail giant Flying Tiger Copenhagen.

The collaboration involves transporting the entirety of Flying Tiger Copenhagen's ocean freight volume using Maersk's ECO Delivery solution from 2024 onwards, aiming to substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with retail logistics.

Green fuels paving the way for emissions reduction in retail supply chains

Maersk's ECO Delivery empowers retail businesses to manage ocean transports using certified green fuels, including second-generation biofuel derived from waste feedstocks.

These eco-friendly fuels, replacing conventional fossil fuels on Maersk's container ships, result in confirmed greenhouse gas emission savings for retail customers.

Certificates substantiate these reductions, showcasing Maersk's commitment to greening retail supply chains. This initiative is set to cut emissions from seaborne transports by over 80% on a lifecycle basis compared to traditional fossil fuels.

Sustainable logistics in a long-standing partnership

Flying Tiger Copenhagen, a trailblazer in the retail industry offering diverse living products and accessories in over 900 stores across 27 countries, has maintained a robust and enduring partnership with Maersk in sustainable logistics since its establishment in 1995.

Maersk plays a crucial role in overseeing the entire supply chain management for Flying Tiger Copenhagen, covering customs services, inland transport, warehousing, and end consumer fulfillment for e-commerce.

Martin Jermiin, CEO of Flying Tiger Copenhagen, underlines the company's dedication to the green transition and commends the efficiency of ECO Delivery in mitigating emissions from retail maritime logistics.

Unlocking benefits for retailers: ECO delivery beyond ocean freight

Maersk's ECO Delivery Ocean transports offer retail customers exemptions from EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) charges, providing fixed prices for the green fuels used in the process.

The sustainable solution extends beyond ocean freight, encompassing airfreight cargo and select landside transports in specific retail areas.

Stig Kirkegaard, Nordic Area Head of Sales at Maersk, highlights the significance of retail companies like Flying Tiger Copenhagen adopting the ECO Delivery Ocean solution to reduce their greenhouse gas footprint.

He also emphasises the pleasure of having a close retail partner like Flying Tiger Copenhagen join the growing group of Maersk customers choosing sustainable transportation solutions.

Maersk, recognising the pivotal role of retail in driving sustainability, is actively working towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2040 across its entire business through the implementation of new technologies, vessels, and green fuels.
