Lidl GB has signed a deal with the Pembrokeshire Creamery to sell milk produced and bottled in Wales.
From 1 June 2024, all own-label Welsh milk sold at Lidl stores in Wales will be produced on Welsh farms and bottled at the new creamery - the only retail-certified creamery in the country.
Welsh milk has previously been bottled in factories in England before being transported back to Wales to be sold in Lidl’s stores.
The products will join Lidl’s existing range of Welsh produce, which includes bread, butter, yoghurt, eggs, lamb and beef.
Through the security of its long-term contract with Lidl, along with an injection from the Welsh government, Pembrokeshire Creamery has invested £20m to build the country’s only bottling facility certified to supply supermarkets, initially creating 80 jobs.
Lidl GB chief commercial officer Richard Bourns commented: "Our partnership is testament to our commitment to offer Welsh shoppers the very best in homegrown food and drink. We take pride in championing local producers, and this contract marks a significant milestone for the Welsh dairy sector, whilst also supporting the local economy in Pembrokeshire.”
Pembrokeshire Creamery managing director Mark McQuade added: “We are very excited that the partnership will deliver products from farm to shelf in a more efficient way.”
Lidl recently announced a significant £500m ($626.9m) investment to bolster the British pork industry.
