LEGO Group has inaugurated its new environmentally sustainable manufacturing facility in Binh Duong province, southern Vietnam - its sixth global factory and its second in Asia.

The establishment of the $1bn LEGO Manufacturing Vietnam facility will bolster growth prospects within the region and enhance the availability of the brand’s play products for children internationally.

It also serves as a model for the LEGO Group’s Future Factory Workplace initiative, which emphasises environmentally friendly and health-conscious work settings, recreational areas for employees, community involvement at factory locations and enhanced amenities.

The site's buildings are the first within the LEGO Group to achieve LEED [Leadership in Energy and Environment Design] Platinum certification. This includes its administrative building and a play pavilion for children’s activities.

Other sections of the factory, such as those dedicated to moulding, packing and warehousing, have gained LEED Gold certification.

LEGO Group CEO Niels Christiansen stated: “Today marks an exciting milestone for us as we proudly open our sixth factory in the world.

“This state-of-the-art site reflects our commitment to sustainable growth and innovation, bringing more LEGO play experiences to children and our fans in the Asia-Pacific region through increased manufacturing capacity.”

By early 2026, LEGO Manufacturing Vietnam is set to be powered entirely by renewable energy sources. The company has disclosed a significant partnership with Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) to construct an energy centre on a neighbouring plot of land.

This centre will feature Vietnam's first large-scale battery storage system and is expected to become operational by the end of 2025. Additional renewable energy requirements will be satisfied through power purchase agreements.

LEGO Group chief operating officer Carsten Rasmussen stated: “The use of battery storage solutions and power purchase agreements to increase renewable energy is not just a first for the LEGO Group but among the first for any company in Vietnam.”

A notable innovation at LEGO Manufacturing Vietnam is its exclusive use of paper-based pre-pack bags in production – a first among LEGO factories.

The group is preparing to launch a regional distribution hub in Dong Nai province, Vietnam - part of a strategic effort to elevate supply chain flexibility and responsiveness.

The distribution centre is set to commence full operations later in the current year but has already begun scaling up activities with initial shipments being processed.

Operated by Kuehne+Nagel, it will function as the company’s second logistics centre in Asia.

In 2023, LEGO expanded its retail footprint by opening a new store in Sydney Arcade at Pitt Street Mall through a partnership with Alquemie Group.
