Ochama, an omnichannel retailer owned by Chinese e-commerce company JingDong (JD.com), has launched one-hour delivery in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The new service encompasses product categories such as fresh and frozen foods, beverages and personal care items. Customers placing orders between 9am and 11pm will receive their packages within one hour. For orders made after 11pm, delivery will be scheduled before 10am the following day.

The cornerstone of the new free one-hour delivery service is the strategically located Forward Distribution Center (FDC) in Amsterdam. The FDC supports storage, sorting and immediate order fulfilment, serving consumers within a 3km radius.

Orders are immediately relayed to the Amsterdam FDC upon placement. There, Ochama's dedicated team picks and packs the items. The package is then delivered directly to the customer's doorstep by Ochama's in-house delivery couriers.

To further accommodate the diverse pick-up preferences of consumers, Ochama has recently deployed more than 1,000 pick-up lockers across the Netherlands and Belgium. The retailer also offers same-day pick-up services in select regions of the country.

Ochama currently offers home delivery services in 24 countries and operates more than 800 pickup points across the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and France.

GlobalData’s intelligence on innovation in retail delivery finds that for consumers, a convenient delivery experience comes down to three core elements: cost of delivery, speed of delivery and flexibility of both.

JD.com is a major player in China’s e-commerce market, rivalled only by Alibaba. In 2023, the company partnered with luxury retailer Gucci to bolster its international reach.
