In 2024, IKEA US plans to open four stores with plan and order points and pick-up. Two of the locations will be in Austin, Texas and the Atlanta Metropolitan area, and two in greater Los Angeles.

IKEA aims to increase accessibility for customers who can choose their purchase collection point based on convenience.

Customers can also receive support from IKEA experts to plan and order kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms.

IKEA US also intends to open plan and order points with pick-up in Annapolis and Gaithersburg, Maryland and in Katy, Texas.

The company currently operates more than 50 stores in the US with 18 pick-up locations.

IKEA US performance in 2023

At the close of 2023, the company announced a $54.5m bonus payout to employees and reduced prices on hundreds of its products, ending what it called a "record year".

IKEA reported more than $6.3bn in total sales of goods and services during the year, up by 6.6% compared to 2022.

This was alongside expanding its buyback and resell service which allows customers to purchase gently used products, installing public electric vehicle chargers in its stores and advocating for US legislation as part of IKEA’s mission to become climate-positive by 2030.

2023 also saw IKEA US commission solar installation across seven units, introduce a large-scale renewable heating/cooling project to optimise existing HVAC [heating, ventilation and air conditioning] systems at five stores, and install its first-ever battery storage project.
