French luxury design house Hermes has expanded its presence in Asia with the opening of a new store in China and a fully renovated store in Japan.

Located in the SKP Chengdu shopping centre in the Chengdu Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, the new store is Hermes’ second location in Chengdu city and its 33rd shop in mainland China.

The SKP Chengdu store features two main storeys, with the ground floor offering men’s silk and equestrian accessories and homeware collections.

One side of the floor is dedicated to men’s ready-to-wear and shoes while the other offers bags and small leather goods.

The first floor, which is dedicated to women, offers ready-to-wear, hats, shoes, jewellery, belts and watches. In addition, the floor houses a private lounge.

Each section of the store is adorned with special light coves and connects to others through various passages.

In Japan, Hermès fully renovated location opened on Hokkaido Island. The refurbished store is located inside the Daimaru department store in northern Japan.

The renovated store features women’s silk and perfume, fashion jewellery and watches and men’s silk, ready-to-wear area, as well as a confidential cove-lit salon.

The store is built along two axes whose sections are linked with each other through wooden arches.

Among others, the decor at Hermes’ new store in Japan includes original Tokyo-inspired works from the Dutch photographer Charlotte Dumas and the Belgian photographer Harry Gruyaert.

It also features the work of photographer Patrick Faigenbaum’s Le Citronnier and Spanish photography duo Albarrán Cabrera.

Recently, Hermès reported total sales of €3.36bn ($3.57bn) in the third quarter of fiscal year 2023, up 16% at constant exchange rates.

Traditional AI is here to stay in the retail and apparel space

Initially, retailers used AI for basic tasks, including inventory management and demand forecasting. However, its usage has now become more prevalent in other aspects such as personalized marketing, customer service, pricing optimization, and supply chain management. With the rise of ecommerce and the increasing importance of data-driven decision-making, AI adoption in retail and apparel has accelerated. The industry now relies on AI to enhance the shopping experience, optimize business operations, and gain an overall competitive edge.
