GU’s first overseas flagship store to open in New York

GU will also launch an online store offering the same product lineup, enabling nationwide access to its fashion offerings.

Japanese apparel retailer and sister brand of UNIQLO, GU, has revealed plans to open its first overseas flagship store In New York, US. 

Named GU NY SOHO, the new store will open in autumn 2024.

The store, with a sales floor area of 10,225ft², will be located on the main street of the SoHo area.  

GU NY SOHO will feature women's and men's clothing, shoes, bags and accessories.  

GU will also launch an online store offering the same product lineup, enabling nationwide access to its fashion offerings.  

The brand's current pop-up store in New York will close in summer 2024, ahead of the flagship store's opening. 

GU CEO Osamu Yunoki said: "For about a year and a half since opening our first pop-up store in the US in the fall of 2022, we have been able to provide GU products to many customers, so we have great expectations for our business development in the US. 

"We have applied what we learned from the pop-up store to establish a framework for product development and business operations at a global level, and we are extremely pleased to be officially opening a store in the United States this fall. We will also launch our online store at the same time, and hope that even more customers will enjoy GU fashion." 

Established in 2006, GU operates 470 Asian stores, predominantly in Japan.  

The announcement of the new store comes after GU established a product division in New York in September 2023 

The company will boost its local workforce by recruiting designers, pattern makers and other roles essential to establishing a product development base in New York.
