Retail, sport and intellectual property company Frasers Group has expanded its portfolio with the acquisition of premium menswear retailer John Anthony.
Financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed, according to media reports.
Established in 1979, John Anthony offers a mix of designer collections from both new and established labels.
The retailer operates a network of five stores in the UK: Bristol, Bournemouth, Bath, Swindon and Southampton.
Its brands include Acne Studios, Belstaff, Cole Buxton, Dsquared2, Fred Perry, Hoka, Hugo and Vivienne Westwood.
In 2023 the retailer also introduced new brands including A-COLD-WALL, Comme Des Garcons Play, MKI Miyuki Zoku and Salomon.
It is currently unclear if the retailer will continue to operate under the John Anthony brand or if the chain will be integrated into one of Frasers’ other operations.
The acquisition comes as Frasers recorded an operating profit of 4.4% and before-tax growth of 8% in the first half of fiscal 2024.
The retailer, which owns Sports Direct, also saw its revenue increase 4.4% to £2.76bn during the 26 weeks ending 29 October 2023.
In June 2023, Frasers Group acquired a 5.01% stake in online fashion seller Boohoo and an 8.9% stake in electricals retailer Currys.
In October 2023, the sportswear and fashion retailer entered into a binding agreement to acquire German sports retailer SportScheck.
However, Frasers backed out of the agreement when SportScheck filed for bankruptcy in December 2023 after its parent company, Signa Holding, entered administration.
