Diebold Nixdorf, a global provider of retail solutions, has initiated the rollout of its new AI-based checkout solutions, as showcased at the NRF Big Show.

The technology aims to address common issues related to self-service checkouts and traditional point-of-sale (POS) systems, offering retailers a comprehensive approach to shrink reduction.

Diebold Nixdorf's innovative AI-powered solution, named 'Vynamic Smart Vision I Shrink Reduction,' utilises SeeChange's AI and machine learning cloud platform.

The system is designed to identify intentional or unintentional miss-scanning by shoppers, mismatches between products and their labels, and instances where customers leave unpaid items in their carts.

Additionally, it addresses more than a dozen other sources of loss at self-service checkouts.

Holistic approach to shrink reduction

The Smart Vision technology-powered offering is intended to complement Diebold Nixdorf's existing AI-based solutions, focusing on reducing friction during fresh produce scanning and age verification for restricted sales.

By integrating these technologies on a single platform, the company aims to provide one of the most comprehensive anti-shrink solutions in the market, with scalability benefits.

Diebold Nixdorf emphasises its ability to deploy the new AI-powered solutions seamlessly for retailers through existing in-store integrations.

Addressing challenges in self-service technology

Recognising the potential of self-service technology in enhancing customer convenience and optimising floor space, retailers have faced challenges in managing and mitigating the associated risks of shrink at self-service checkouts.

Diebold Nixdorf's AI-powered solution aims to improve the overall shopper and employee experience by reducing the need for human intervention, addressing stock inaccuracies, and minimising points of friction during the self-checkout process.

Matt Redwood, vice-president of Retail Technology Solutions at Diebold Nixdorf, emphasised the company's commitment to innovation that enhances customer and employee experiences while allowing retailers to scale easily and improve efficiency.

The new AI-powered solutions are now available, offering retailers a means to reduce revenue loss and enhance the self-checkout experience at scale.
