British co-operative group Co-op has inaugurated a new, larger store in Great Shelford, Cambridgeshire, designed to enhance the shopping experience for the local community.

The store at De Freville House, High Green, spans 2,400ft² and provides 12 local jobs.

The new Co-op store houses an in-store bakery, fresh and healthy products, everyday essentials, meal ideas, food-to-go and chilled beers.

It also offers home deliveries through Deliveroo and Just Eat and features customer car parking and an ATM.

The Co-op has introduced a soft plastic recycle unit in-store, allowing customers to recycle a range of soft plastics such as bread bags, crisp packets and biscuit wrappers.

This initiative ensures that all Co-op’s own food packaging can be recycled, either through local authority kerbside collections or the in-store recycling facility.

Co-op store manager Michael Dessent stated: “We have had a great response, and we are delighted to have had the opportunity to serve up a new, larger and improved store to serve Great Shelford better.

“We are enjoying welcoming our member-owners and customers into their new Co-op. Our aim is always to operate at the heart of local life, and we’ve worked to develop the range, choice and added services to create a compelling offer to serve and support our community, conveniently.

“This includes a focus on delivering member value so that the people who own our business, Co-op's member-owners, benefit every time they shop.”

In December 2024, Co-op expanded its presence in the UK with the opening of new stores in Cambridge and Northamptonshire.
