British co-operative retailer Co-op has initiated a trial partnership with UK-based home delivery app Snappy Shopper in Northern Ireland to offer customers quick and convenient access to groceries.

Launched at the retailer’s Shankill Road store in Belfast, the trial has now expanded to the Kings Road store in Gilnahirk.

According to Snappy Shopper CEO Mike Callachan, the partnership with Co-op and expansion into Northern Ireland represents the next phase of the company's q-commerce [quick commerce with on-demand delivery] strategy.

The collaboration is part of Co-op’s strategy to grow its online presence, focusing on speed and convenience.

Orders are picked from local stores and delivered swiftly within the community.

During the trial period, deliveries are offered at a competitive price of 99p within a radius of 2.5 miles from participating stores, with a delivery time of under one hour.

Co-op online development head George Hayworth stated: “Working with Snappy Shopper fits with our quick and convenient approach to e-commerce - a model which sees products picked fresh in the local store, so the high street store benefits from increased online demand.

“We continually look for new ways to expand and grow our online offer and are pleased to launch a trial with Snappy Shopper to provide increased customer choice and access to our products - serving our member-owners and customers close to our stores with what they want and need, when and where they need it.”

In February 2024, Co-op partnered with Uber Eats to roll out exclusive in-app price deals for its member-owners in a pioneering move for a UK delivery platform.
