E-commerce giant Amazon is expanding its workforce in the UK to meet increased demand during the upcoming holiday season.

The company announced that it will hire more than 15,000 seasonal employees across its network of fulfilment centres, sortation centres, and delivery stations.

These seasonal roles are in addition to Amazon’s existing workforce of 75,000 permanent employees in the UK.

The company offers competitive wages and benefits, including a starting pay rate of at least £13.50 ($17.99) per hour.

Amazon has made significant investments in its UK operations in recent years, including a £550m increase in pay for operations employees since 2022.

This investment has resulted in a 35% increase in the hourly rate for these roles.

“We prepare year-round for the festive season, and we’re excited to have more than 15,000 positions available this year in the UK. Our seasonal colleagues play an integral role in helping us deliver an exceptional experience for our customers,” said Amazon UK operations director Anil Verma.

“We look forward to welcoming back seasonal workers who return year after year to Amazon, and to welcoming new faces to the team.”

In addition to competitive wages, Amazon offers a comprehensive benefits package to its employees, including private medical insurance, life assurance, income protection, subsidised meals, and an employee discount.

As the holiday season approaches, Amazon is gearing up to meet the increased demand for its products and services.

The company’s decision to hire thousands of seasonal workers is a testament to its continued growth and commitment to providing exceptional customer experiences.

Furthermore, the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority recently concluded that the AI partnership between Amazon and startup Anthropic will not be subjected to an in-depth investigation.
