In a move to enhance the customer experience and support local businesses, Amazon has announced the launch of a dedicated Republic of Ireland-based online store, Amazon.ie, set to open in 2025.

Irish consumers already utilise online Amazon stores in other countries, but the new platform promises a more localised experience.

Key features include:

  • Wider product selection: Customers will have access to a vast array of more than 100 million products, with a specific focus on showcasing offerings from Irish businesses.
  • Competitive pricing: The store will offer local pricing, eliminating the need to navigate currency fluctuations and potential customs charges.
  • Faster deliveries and returns: Leveraging the company's existing Dublin fulfilment centre, Amazon.ie promises speedier deliveries and simplified return processes.

This launch builds upon Amazon's established presence in Ireland.

The company's first fulfilment centre in the country, opened in Dublin in 2022, not only generated 500 jobs but also facilitated faster delivery options, including one-day delivery on hundreds of thousands of products.

The new platform presents a significant opportunity for Irish small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

More than 1,000 Irish SMEs already utilise Amazon as a sales channel, generating over €150m ($161.74m) in export sales in 2022 alone.

This initiative aligns with Amazon's commitment to supporting European SMEs, evidenced by its €20bn investment from 2020 to 2022, which helped European SMEs achieve more than €8bn in export sales.

Amazon's dedication to the Irish market is further solidified by its five-year agreement with An Post, announced in 2023.

This collaboration will streamline delivery and return processes for customers in the region.

Beyond its role as a retailer, Amazon is a key employer in Ireland.

With more than 6,500 employees across Cork, Dublin, and Drogheda, the company supports a diverse range of roles, including data engineers, operations management, and finance professionals.

“We already serve customers across Ireland, support more than 1,000 local businesses who sell on Amazon, and are a significant employer in Ireland,” said Darragh Kelly, general manager for Customer Fulfilment at Amazon Ireland.

“Our teams across the country are so excited about this next chapter in our story here, and are looking forward to delivering for our customers through our new Irish store in 2025.”

Further details regarding the new store, including registration options for Irish brands and SMEs, customer offers, and additional benefits, are expected in the coming months.
