E-commerce giant Amazon is set to allow auto dealers to start selling their vehicles online in the US for the first time in 2024.

The move has seen Amazon enter into a strategic partnership with South Korean automotive manufacturer Hyundai Motor Company to become the first automotive brand available for purchase and improve the customer experience.

As part of this multi-year agreement, Hyundai will leverage Amazon Web Services (AWS) capabilities such as storage, analytics, database and computing to expedite its digital transformation.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said: "Hyundai is a very innovative company that shares Amazon’s passion for trying to make customers’ lives better and easier every day.

“Our broad, strategic partnership should do just that, from changing the ease with which customers can buy vehicles online to making it simple to use Alexa in Hyundai vehicles for entertainment, shopping, smart home adjustments and calendar checks to enabling Hyundai to transform their customer experiences and business operations by moving to AWS. We look forward to inventing together for many years.”

Customers can purchase a car online and schedule delivery from a local dealership or pick it up themselves at their convenience.

They can select vehicles based on their preferences, including model, features, trim and colour. Customers can also choose payment and financing options that are within the Amazon experience.

Buyers of new Hyundai vehicles will also have access to Amazon's Alexa voice assistant from their cars from 2025.

Hyundai drivers can ask Alexa for the latest traffic updates and weather reports or to play music, podcasts, audiobooks or more.

Traditional AI is here to stay in the retail and apparel space

Initially, retailers used AI for basic tasks, including inventory management and demand forecasting. However, its usage has now become more prevalent in other aspects such as personalized marketing, customer service, pricing optimization, and supply chain management. With the rise of ecommerce and the increasing importance of data-driven decision-making, AI adoption in retail and apparel has accelerated. The industry now relies on AI to enhance the shopping experience, optimize business operations, and gain an overall competitive edge.
