E-commerce giant Amazon has expanded its operations and logistics network with two new advanced delivery stations in Connecticut, US.

The retailer opened one 105,000ft² facility on National Drive in Glastonbury and the second 180,000ft² facility on Ellington Road in South Windsor.

Amazon’s delivery stations serve as the last stop before packages reach customers.

The Glastonbury site will operate with three delivery service partners and the South Windsor site with five delivery service partners.

These locations will help entrepreneurs build their own businesses in delivering Amazon packages. Independent contractors will also be able to have flexibility in their own schedule while delivering for Amazon Flex.

Amazon site leader Habib Makhlouta said: “We’re excited to expand into South Windsor and we are committed to being a good neighbour. This last-mile delivery station not only brings hundreds of new jobs to this area, but it will also help us ensure we can deliver exceptional service to our customers throughout Connecticut.”

The two sites have already generated more than 250 full-time and part-time jobs and will scale up in the next few months.

Amazon already has more than 15,000 full-time and part-time employees in Connecticut.

Since 2010, Amazon has invested more than $7.2bn in the state, including infrastructure and employee compensations.

The e-commerce retailer has also supported the state through donations and volunteering opportunities such as its donation of more than 1,200 classroom items to eight public schools in the area.

Amazon engagement area manager Angie Aguilar Villalobos said: “We’re thrilled to officially launch our delivery station in Glastonbury, creating great local jobs and ensuring we can better deliver for our customers in this area. We look forward to continuing to engage with the town, deepen our relationship with this community, and find ways to give back in the neighbourhoods we serve.”

Last month, Amazon opened its largest last-mile delivery centre in Mexico.
