British supermarket chain Aldi has announced a list of more than 30 stores that are set to undergo an extensive refurbishment in the summer of 2024.

The strategic move comes as part of a broader effort to upgrade more than 100 stores in the country during the year.

Aldi is investing £90m ($114m) to facilitate the refurbishment work, aimed at enhancing the customer experience by providing more space and incorporating sustainable features.

The upgrades will vary, depending on the requirements of each site.

Energy-efficient technologies, such as fridge doors to reduce energy consumption and natural refrigerants to lower carbon emissions, are some of the central agendas of the upgrade work.

The updates will also involve refreshed signage and redesigned store layouts to optimise the shopping experience.

Stores in Leek, Newport and Brierley Hill are among those earmarked for the significant transformations.

Aldi UK national real estate managing director Jonathan Neale said: “We are committed to making sure that the shopping experience is on a par with the high-quality products and service we offer.

“Finding ways to reduce any environmental impact as we continue to grow our store estate across the country is also a vital part of these changes.”

In June 2024 Aldi Ireland confirmed plans to invest €400m to expand its presence in the country with 30 new stores by 2028.
