Supermarket chain Aldi UK has announced a significant £3bn investment plan with British beef suppliers up to 2029.
The investment is part of the retailer's commitment to supporting British quality and aiding UK producers.
Aldi is one of the major retailers of British beef and expects the investment to provide farmers with the confidence to plan and ensure security for supply chains throughout the country.
The investment includes a substantial five-year contract with its supply partner Kepak, amounting to a £260m commitment to its Aberdeen Angus beef line - supporting local produce and improving the quality and variety of beef available to Aldi's customers.
Aldi UK Buying managing director Julie Ashfield said: “As the UK’s largest British beef retailer, we’re proud of our long-term relationships with British farmers across the country. The UK farming community plays a vital role in our food supply chains – our continued investment in British beef is in recognition of this and means we can continue to provide the best quality British products for our customers.”
In July 2023, the supermarket chain pledged to enhance the welfare of chickens by introducing new stocking density requirements for its suppliers, providing the retailer’s chickens with an extra 20% more space than the current industry standard.
In August 2024 a report from consumer group Which? named Aldi as the cheapest supermarket chain in the UK in July 2024 for a second consecutive month.
