Supermarket chain Aldi UK has revealed its recruitment plans for 2024 and looks forward to welcoming more colleagues with the creation of 5,500 new jobs.

The announcement is in line with the retailer’s plan to expedite growth throughout the year.

The new roles will include positions for store assistants, managers and cleaners at its planned new store openings.

Aldi is also recruiting for its 11 regional distribution centres and head office roles.

Store and warehouse assistants at Aldi will start work on a salary of £12.00 per hour, which can rise to £12.95. Workers within the M25 [the motorway encircling London] can earn between £13.55 and £13.85 per hour.

Aldi also offers paid breaks. This offer equates to an additional £900 annually for the average store colleague.

Aldi UK CEO Giles Hurley said: “Our colleagues work incredibly hard and are without a doubt a huge part of our success at Aldi. We continue to welcome more and more customers to Aldi stores every week, not just because of our unbeatable prices and British sourcing, but also our amazing colleagues.

“We are looking forward to welcoming even more colleagues up and down the country to Team Aldi during 2024 as we progress towards our goal of making affordable, quality food accessible to everyone.”

The recruitment drive is part of the retailer's broader strategy of opening 500 additional stores across Britain, with an investment of £1.4bn planned for 2023 and 2024.

This investment will expand its distribution and store network and enhance existing stores and technology infrastructure.

Aldi operates 1,000 stores in the country and employs 45,000 staff.

In January 2024, Aldi UK revealed plans to hire 500 individuals for its national apprenticeship scheme.
