The UK’s fourth-largest supermarket with 1,020 stores currently employs more than 45,000 people.

Grocery retailer Aldi is set to create 1,000 jobs in new stores across the UK by 2025.

Roles available will include managerial positions, caretakers, cleaners and store apprentices.

Starting pay for store assistants at Aldi is £12.40 per hour nationally, rising to £13.35 per hour. Rates inside the M25 London orbital motorway are £13.65 per hour, rising to £13.95 per hour.

Aldi has been praised for its hourly rates and is the only supermarket to provide paid breaks for its staff, a benefit valued at £900 annually for the average store colleague.

In May 2024, Aldi announced its second pay increase for store colleagues within a year, taking the supermarket’s investment in pay in 2024 to £79m.

This investment in people parallels Aldi’s focus on store expansion, as it aims to open 35 new stores across the UK in 2024 with a long-term vision of reaching 1,500.

Aldi UK recruitment director Kelly Stokes commented: “We want even more people to be a part of our success in the future, which is why we offer a great working environment and opportunities to progress within the business.”

Aldi’s strong brand reputation presents significant competition to leaders in the UK grocery sector, including Tesco, which came under fire in early 2024 for its CEO’s £10m bonus.
