Supermarket chain Aldi UK plans to launch nine new stores in London in 2025, marking a £55m investment within the M25 orbital motorway area.

The move, announced in December 2024, is part of the supermarket's broader £650m capital infusion into the British market for 2025.

The grocer, known for its competitive pricing strategy, has identified four areas -Wimbledon, Fulham Broadway, Caterham and Orpington - for the new stores.

The development aligns with Aldi's commitment to extending its footprint in London. The company has long-term plans to launch an additional 100 stores and generate 3,500 employment opportunities there.

The investment will also be used to enhance existing stores within the M25, such as an expansion of its Colindale store.

Aldi UK national real estate managing director Jonathan Neale said: "We strongly believe that everyone in Britain should have access to high quality food at our unbeatable Aldi prices. But we know that there are still thousands of shoppers in the capital that don’t yet have access to an Aldi nearby.

"We don’t think it’s fair that so many people still have to make do with big prices at other supermarkets, which is why London continues to be a real focus for us as we work to bring even more Aldi stores to shoppers across the capital.”

The announcement from Aldi comes after consumer group Which? recognised the retailer as the UK’s cheapest supermarket for 2024 - the fourth consecutive year.

The supermarket chain reported its most successful Christmas ever in 2024, with sales surpassing £1.6bn in the month leading up to Christmas Eve.
