Supermarket chain Aldi UK has revealed a substantial pay increase to £12.75 ($16.12) for its store assistants, effective from 1 March 2025.

The new minimum hourly rate sets Aldi apart as the highest-paying supermarket in Britain and exceeds the Real Living Wage determined by the Living Wage Foundation in October 2024.

Store assistants will see their wages climb to £13.66 nationally and to £14.35 within the M25 London orbital motorway, depending on their tenure with the company.

This scale of remuneration reflects Aldi's recognition of the pivotal role its employees play in the company's success.

The retailer has pledged another pay raise for store colleagues in September 2025.

The planned increase will boost the minimum rates to £12.85 per hour nationally and to £14.16 per hour inside the M25.

Aldi also continues to offer paid breaks for all colleagues, which translates to an additional annual benefit of £1,370 for the average store employee.

Aldi UK and Ireland CEO Giles Hurley stated: "This latest increase recognises the important contribution that our colleagues make day in, day out and ensures they are rewarded fully for their contribution with industry-leading pay.

“Every member of Team Aldi plays an important role in providing the best products, service and value to the millions of shoppers that visit our stores.”

The announcement follows Aldi's being named the UK's cheapest supermarket by consumer watchdog Which? for four consecutive years.

The retailer emerged as the most affordable option with an average basket price of £185.83, closely followed by Lidl at £186.59.
