Aldi has revealed its latest list of priority locations for newbuild stores across the UK.

In May 2024, the grocery retailer initiated a nationwide campaign to engage the UK public in selecting optimal sites for upcoming store launches.

Aldi will now use the list of suggested locations to develop its store search.

Priority locations across the UK where Aldi is currently seeking sites are Liverpool, London, Manchester, Scotland, Somerset, Sussex and Warwickshire.

In addition to this list, the retailer has identified further locations throughout the UK where it believes there is demand for Aldi. There are more than 100 within the M25 London orbital motorway and a further 100 in the wider southeast region.

The supermarket is also searching for sites to accommodate its Aldi Local store format, which is around 5,000ft², inside the M25.

Aldi’s criteria for potential sites is that a location should be able to accommodate a 20,000ft² store with around 100 parking spaces near a main road with good visibility and access.

Aldi UK managing director of national real estate Jonathan Neale commented: “We want to make high-quality food accessible to all, but we can’t do that while there are still some towns and areas that either don’t have an Aldi or have capacity for additional stores.”

Aldi has been on a rapid expansion drive and now has more than 1,020 stores.
