Supermarket chain Aldi has announced plans to expand its presence in London, UK, targeting priority locations for new stores.

The move is part of the retailer’s £500m investment to add more stores within the M25 London orbital motorway.

The retailer plans 100 new stores, creating 3,500 jobs in the region.

Aldi is currently the fourth largest supermarket in the UK and has announced its long-term goal of 1,500 locations.

The company has expressed a particular interest in areas such as Notting Hill, Beckenham, Chelsea, Kensington and Richmond.

Aldi's expansion strategy includes both its standard 20,000ft² store format with 100 parking spaces, ideally on a prominent main road and with convenient access, and smaller 5,000ft² locations.

Aldi is offering property agents a finder's fee for recommending suitable sites.

The fee structure includes 1.5% of the freehold price or 10% of the first year's rent for leasehold sites.

Aldi UK national real estate managing director Jonathan Neale said: “We want to make high quality, affordable food accessible to all, but there are still many areas in the capital that don’t have access to an Aldi and, as a result, too many people have to make do with big prices at the traditional supermarkets.

“The locations we’ve identified are places where there is demand for our stores and we are committed to continue investing until we can bring our quality products and unbeatable prices to as many people as possible.”

Aldi recently revealed plans to add 800 new stores across the US by the end of 2028 as part of its five-year expansion plan.
