Supermarket chain Aldi has made shopping quicker and easier at its innovative checkout-free store in London, UK by launching contactless payment.
The new feature allows customers to gain entry to the Aldi Shop&Go store by simply tapping their contactless payment card or mobile phone, eliminating the need to register through the Shop&Go app.
The Aldi Shop&Go concept on Greenwich High Street opened in January 2022. It features a system provided by AiFi that enables customers to shop without scanning items or passing through a traditional checkout.
The store is fitted with cameras which identify the products customers take from the shelves.
The goods are then automatically charged to their contactless payment method or Aldi Shop&Go account when they leave the store. They can opt to receive their receipt through the app or website.
Aldi UK regional managing director Ben Shotter stated: “It has been great to see how positively customers have responded to our Shop&Go trial, and this latest change will help to make it even quicker and easier for people to use the store.
“We’re always looking for ways to improve our customers’ shopping experience, which is what our Shop&Go store is all about.”
In August 2023, Aldi announced the trial of a new sensory-friendly shopping hours initiative at 100 stores across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire.
