Supermarket chain Aldi UK has increased hourly wages for its store assistants across the UK, reinforcing its status as Britain’s top-paying supermarket employer.

From 1 March 2025, the base pay rate will rise to a minimum of £12.71 per hour, with those within the M25 London orbital motorway receiving at least £14.

The enhancement surpasses the Real Living Wage as determined by the country's Living Wage Foundation in October 2024.

The pay scale is set to advance further based on tenure, reaching £13.62 nationally and £14.23 for those within the M25.

Aldi also offers paid breaks, adding an estimated annual value of £1,370 for an average store employee.

Aldi UK and Ireland chief executive officer Giles Hurley said: "Our colleagues are the best in the business and this latest pay rise reflects our ongoing commitment to ensuring they remain the best paid.

“Every single Aldi colleague plays an absolutely vital role in delivering on our promise to bring unbeatable Aldi prices to even more customers across the UK.”

The development follows Aldi's recognition as the UK’s Cheapest Supermarket in the UK by consumer group Which? for the fourth consecutive year.

Aldi UK recently revealed plans to inaugurate nine new stores in London with a £55m investment.
