Wonder Group, a party supplies retailer and distributor formerly known as Amscan, is reportedly on the verge of administration due to a decline in consumer spending.
According to Sky News, Wonder Group is preparing to file a notice of intention to appoint Interpath Advisory to oversee a potential insolvency process.
This move comes as the company, with a workforce of approximately 200 across the UK and Europe, has been impacted by a slump in demand for party and costume products in international markets.
The news comes as a surprise considering Wonder Group’s ambitious growth plans. Only 18 months ago, the company set a lofty revenue target of £500m ($634.23m) by 2026, fuelled by its acquisition of Party King, a leading Swedish online retailer.
Wonder Group further bolstered its portfolio through the strategic purchase of Ginger Ray in 2021.
Sky News noted industry sources suggest that Wonder Group’s management intends to file for administration as a temporary solution to gain breathing room from creditor pressure.
