Walmart Canada has introduced a new Urban Supercentre Concept at its Toronto-Stockyards location in Ontario, bringing together technology and convenience for customers.

As part of the concept, the retailer has launched new Stockyards Fast Lane checkout technology, integrated with the My Walmart app, to assist customers in scanning products as they shop.

Customers can use the My Walmart App to scan items and download digital coupons on the go and store-specific deals. They can also use the Fast Lane to complete their checkout by scanning the barcode on their order, complete payment using a credit card on file and show the receipt to the Fast Lane associate for quick exit.

“With our new Urban Supercentre Concept, we’re continuing to position ourselves as a leader in store design and retail innovation.”

As part of its licensee strategy, the retailer will feature a range of licensee store concepts, including Freshii, the Party Shop, The UPS store, Miniso, Naoki Sushi and McDonald’s at the Stockyards-Toronto store.

The store also features dedicated Walmart.ca section to host pop-up shops for online vendors and allow customers to shop for extended aisle products. The section also includes expanded and improved pickup areas both inside and outside the store to offer convenience to customers.

Walmart Canada president and CEO Lee Tappenden said: “With our new Urban Supercentre Concept, we’re continuing to position ourselves as a leader in store design and retail innovation.

The retailer has also redesigned and renamed the store’s grocery section as Fresh Market and offers fruits and vegetables, Canadian beef, chicken, pork, and seafood, with a seating section to allow customers to sit and have their meals.

It also features two dedicated nursing rooms, a redesigned toy section and Walmart’s full-service Party Shop. The company plans to open a second Supercentre Concept in Thornhill next year.

Walmart Canada announced $175m investment to revamp 23 existing stores, in April this year.
