UK supermarket chain Waitrose & Partners has announced plans to open a new customer fulfilment centre in Enfield, North London, next year.
The company has acquired a 110,000ft2 property to establish the new facility, which will be used to serve online customer orders.
The move is part of the company’s plans to triple the size of its online grocery operation to a £1bn business over the next three years.
Earlier this month, the retailer announced that it will open three automated customer fulfilment centres (CFCs) and use new technologies to enhance the online customer experience.
The company invested more than £80m into Waitrose.com over the last five years. The current expansion marks the next stage of online investment covering the entire service, including the digital platform, new apps and delivery performance and service.
Waitrose & Partners digital director Ben Stimson said: “Waitrose.com growth is rapid and we know there are many more new customers who would like to buy our products from us online.
