Californian regional grocer The Save Mart Companies will leverage grocery technology company Instacart’s in-store and e-commerce solutions as part of their expanded partnership.

Almost all 200 Save Mart, FoodMaxx and Lucky store locations will now feature AI-powered smart carts and an order management system for grocery foodservice.

Caper Carts, Instacart’s AI-powered smart carts, offers an interactive screen that engages customers, tracks spending for budget management and incorporates a loyalty programme for direct access to coupons and deals.

FoodStorm, Instacart’s order management system, allows customers to place orders for made-to-order items directly on the Caper Cart screen while they shop, then receive a notification once it’s ready for pickup.

The Save Mart, FoodMaxx and Lucky websites will use Instacart’s Storefront Pro tool for e-commerce advertising. This includes the option for the brands to create their own retail media networks, alongside customisable homepage and merchandising layouts, self-serve marketing and analytics tools, and support for third-party integrations such as coupons and loyalty programmes.

The Save Mart Companies first partnered with Instacart in 2019 to launch same-day delivery across its banners. The company also linked with Uber to launch an on-demand and scheduled grocery delivery service in late 2023.

Instacart chief business officer Chris Rogers commented: “We’re committed to giving grocers the technology they need to better serve their customers, no matter how they choose to shop.”

The Save Mart Companies chief digital officer Tamara Pattison added: “Whether it’s accessing coupons and deals on the carts or easily ordering the ‘farm-to-fork’ foods they know and love, we’re creating seamless experiences for our customers across online and in-store.”
