Germany-based book retailer Thalia Bücher has announced a partnership with enterprise AI platform Coveo to enhance its commerce website.

The collaboration aims to provide a personalised shopping experience for Thalia’s customers through AI-powered search and recommendations.

Thalia, which operates more than 500 bookstores in German-speaking countries, has a robust digital presence with an online store and mobile app.

The retailer is on a growth trajectory, aiming to double its marketplace offerings from 20 million to 40 million items by 2026.

To support its expansion goals and adapt to evolving consumer demands, Thalia is leveraging Coveo’s AI expertise to offer a tailored one-on-one experience and streamline product discovery.

The initiative is expected to reduce manual website maintenance and drive positive business outcomes for Thalia.

Thalia CCO Roland Kölbl stated: “Coveo is exactly the right partner for us. With their decade of AI experience, AI search and recommendations, and strength in security, Coveo is the best option to effectively support our strong growth targets in the digital sector.”

The new AI-enhanced commerce site for Thalia is scheduled to go live later in 2024, in time for the holiday shopping season.

The retailer joins a list of global brands that have adopted Coveo’s AI solutions, including SAP America (Concur), Xero, Famous Footwear, Sam Edelman and Fleetpride.

Coveo EMEA managing director Nick Bowles said: “Thalia understands the importance of integrating AI into their commerce experience to create remarkable customer experiences.

“Providing relevant, personalised search and recommendations for brands with large and diverse catalogues even when a shopper is not logged in is where Coveo’s AI platform really shines. We have no doubt that Thalia shoppers will enjoy the new experience and return time and time again.”
