Food retail chain SPAR Russia has opened its first EUROSPAR Supermarket in Omsk, expanding its presence into southwestern Siberia.
Spread across 2,000m2 of space, the Omsk store offers fresh food, such as shawarma, pasta, pancakes, tortillas, pizza and a large selection of on-the-go ready-made meals.
The store also features a café offering breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as an in-store bakery with a range of more than 100 baked goods, including croissants, pies and buns.
Based in in Moscow, SPAR Russia opened its first store in August 2001 through a licence by SPAR International to a regional partner. The supermarket chain currently operates more than 530 locations across the country.
Spar Russia signed a licensing agreement with a new Spar Partner, in February this year, which will see the retailer expand into the southern federal district of Astrakhan.
The first Astrakhan-based Spar supermarket was launched at the end of last year and the company is planning to open 30 new stores in the region by the end of next year.

By GlobalDataSPAR Russia reported 27.8% growth and €2bn in sales for the year ending 31 December 2018.
The increase was driven by factors, such as customised offerings, effective use of the EUROSPAR and INTERSPAR formats and local expertise to meet customers’ needs and expectations.
The company also noted that new SPAR Partner licence agreements signed at the end of last year that will contribute to store expansion and sales growth in Russia.
