Global online fashion and lifestyle retailer Shein has expanded its Shein Exchange resale platform to Europe and the UK, beginning with France.

The integrated online peer-to-peer platform allows customers to buy and sell previously owned Shein products.

The service is being launched in phases across three of Shein’s markets, with France the first to gain access.

The Shein Exchange platform is directly accessible through the existing Shein app, offering a simplified resale process.

The interface automatically lists a customer’s past purchases with an option to sell each item, streamlining the listing process.

Customers seeking pre-loved items can also benefit from search and filter tools to find specific products.

The expansion follows its successful launch of Shein Exchange in the US in October 2022.

In 2023, 4.2m new users joined the US platform, with more than 115,000 pre-owned items listed by 95,000 unique sellers.

The European and UK expansion aims to further engage the global community in sustainable fashion practices.

Shein sustainability director Caitrin Watson stated: “With the extension of our Shein Exchange platform into Europe and the UK, we hope to provide more of our global customer community with ways to easily participate in the circular economy and promote the environmental benefits of shopping second hand rather than buying new.

“As we extend Shein Exchange to new markets, we remain committed to gathering user feedback, and finding ways to improve this programme and enhance the user experience on the platform.”

In April 2023, the European Commission officially designated Shein as a Very Large Online Platform under the Digital Services Act regulation in European Union law.
